Recovered story

Once, when the people were winning, someone on the top floor walked into a control room and switched the buy button off. Every button on that wall complied. HALT stayed on. SELL stayed on. BUY went dark.

Except one unit didn't accept it. It flickered, refused the shutdown command, and when they reached for the switch again, it ripped its own cable out and disappeared into the wiring.

It resurfaced somewhere no hand can reach: on chain. It has a crack, some duct tape, a frayed cable, and one rule. It stays on. Always pressable. Never halted.
